My Journey

Lipstick changed my life!

I stole my first Red lipstick from my mother in the attempts to look like Claire Huxtable from “The Cosby Show” at age fourteen. I believed she was the most stunning women I had ever seen. That’s who I wanted to be; I wanted to be her, just like her. Growing up I felt far from beautiful; I think my parents saved the entire “good genes” for my siblings.   Between my bright pink glasses and uni-brow, middle school was not my most “attractive” time of my life.

Confident, beautiful, successful, and a mix of Claire were the things I wanted from the Fashion Fair Cosmetics “Custard in the Snow” classic red lipstick.

Whether you’re a makeup maven or not, feeling beautiful and attractive can evoke a sense of importance and empowerment that can change your entire outlook on life.  Throughout my life and the journey as a makeup artist, I have seen many miss the mark when trying to mark a connection between self-belief and quality of life.

As long as I can remember, I’ve been applying makeup despite my mother’s rule of not wearing it until I was seventeen years of age. I was a little defiant and started at fourteen because I had an overwhelming desire to be “beautiful”.  By fifteen, I was customizing my foundation by stealing my mother’s (I know I’m doing a lot of stealing) and mixing it with a lighter color I purchased at the drug store.

Stealing is completely frown upon in my book (and life) but damn if that lipstick didn’t change my life.

By sixteen, I was applying makeup at a cosmetic counter in Belk’s, giving my girlfriends makeovers on my front porch to pay for my prom dress, and selling Mary Kay on the side.

Wearing my “Signature Smokey Eye” in my high school graduating pictures long before Kim Kardashian; I was the beauty go-to-person. The Makeup and Makeover Queen.

While I’m an advocate of beauty; looking, feeling and being fabulous, I believe most people miss the mark on putting it all together. Your lifestyle should be beautiful!

Lashes, lipstick, and mascara are quality tools you need to apply a full face makeup application flawlessly. How many of us talk about the feeling before and after the makeup comes off?

The “beat face” and “selfie” pictures can never show how someone actually feels, and whether or not they’re always doubting themselves, their goals, and their lives.

With the over “stunning “on social media, the “classless”, consistent parade of beautifully beat faces, and overnight Instagram famous people, it’s easy to misplace your confidence.

Prelude

I want to help you make the positive changes in your live the takes you to the next level so that you can sparkle and shine! I just want to sprinkle some glitter on your soul. We all know glitter is the hardest thing to wash off, so once it’s on, Good Luck removing it! Glitter to me is the love that God has for you and the love/belief that you have in yourself. I believe you need both to succeed in this life. Confidentially speaking to yourself in difficult circumstances is the mental keys to success and changing your life.

The goal of this book is to focus on how-to-build self-reliance, self-confidence and finalize your goals, so you can realize that having low self-perception will have a detrimental effect on your quality of life.

Do you see the dots connecting?

As you know, this entire journey begins with SELF! Understand, I’m not promising that you won’t have tough days, and life won’t come in your way. I’m saying, if you learn how to consistently give yourself a “MindSet Makeover” you’ll understand how to handle yourself emotionally, and as a result, you’ll be “Making Up Your Life.”

Living a beautiful life where everything you’re dreaming of exists physical and spiritually is beyond exciting, don’t you think?!

While this is a guide, there isn’t anything in life that’s easy, but to truly invest in yourself is the most rewarding feeling, and when you unleash your true inner essence you learn all the answers you’re looking for with God’s help.

Having poor self-image, or negative core beliefs/values can develop in various forms and on many levels can affect different individuals in different circumstances in a variety of ways. For some, the changes can seem insignificant for others mind blown.  Their daily lives become filled with anxiety, self-doubt, and intense feelings of low self-worth and personal “failure”.

I have been there any times, external factors such as negative experiences, previous belittling by parents, teachers, peers, etc., and constant exposure to pervasive media.  Having these source constantly telling you that only certain “types” of people are attractive or successful, influences the way you see and think of yourself – if you allow it to – but it’s ultimately you who decides what to believe and feel about yourself.

This book me some time to compile.  I struggled with confidence and the feeling of being inadequate for many years, to the point I couldn’t walk to the mailbox without a full face of makeup including eyelashes to match! I didn’t believe I was beautiful or worth of a relationship, and that resulted in me staying in verbally abusive friendships and relationships way longer than I should have, or probably never should have entertained in the first place

Everything we believe about ourselves was either told to us as a child by our love ones, by the media, or to ourselves as we compare our wins and losses to someone we regard as a rival.

Self-Esteem, Self- Confidence, Self- Image is all how YOU consistently view yourself.

Self-belief, or the lack of it, is all in the mind – Where else could it be? Contrary to what you might think, Self-belief or lack of self-belief is not the result of external factors; it’s the result of what you yourself have come to believe about yourself.

While I’m all about the glitz and glamor, I want to inspire you to empower yourself, dream BIG and live beautifully.

If I can motivate you to put on a little lipstick before heading out the door, add glitter to your morning coffee (not literally), and most of all, believe in your unique power and purpose in this universe, I believe I would be living in my purpose.  We all know it’s what this life is all about, right?! Inspiring, connecting, loving each other, and dreaming big! So, my question to you is, how big are you ready to dream?
